35 years Viper
In November 1990 I was in the 2d army Calvary Regiment out of fort Bliss Texas.
As I was about to deploy to Iraqi for operation Desert Shield / Storm My father came to see me off and he handed me my first Blublocker aviator . I was wearing them as I boarded the plane to Saudi Arabia . As we move into the desert my blublocker were part of my gear.
One day I was replacing a starter on a M1 Abram’s tank and had them sitting on the back deck and someone set a tool box on top of them breaking them . I still whore them with 1 arm broken off . I later removed the other arm because I found the lens frame fit inside my goggles and was held in place by the outer foam of the goggles . I had also called my father and told him they had been broken he said he would send me another pair . I received them around December just after Christmas. blublocker vipers !
As operation Desert Storm kicked off I wore my upgraded goggles and my vipers into Battle . I was wearing them on this day 35 years ago February 23 1991 as we crossed into Iraq.
They were on my face in February 26 in the Battle of of 73 easting ( the last great tank battle )
I don’t know if you ever knew that blublocker vipers were taken into battle .
Google says that there is no evidence that blublockers were in desert storm . I can tell you first hand that they were . I was very happy to see they look exactly as I remember . Below is a grainy picture of my first pair of Blublocker Vipers in Iraq the second picture …
