For years, polarized sunglasses have been a favorite of boaters and fishermen because of their great ability to cut down on glare from reflected light and allow for clear vision on sunny days. Other outdoor enthusiasts, such as bikers, golfers, and skiers have gotten into the action as well. These sunglasses are excellent for driving, especially if the driver is struggling with the glare coming off either the hood of their car or the road. They can even be used indoors for people who may be light sensitive or coming out of an eye operation. There are plenty of people out there who can tell you what these sunglasses can achieve and how they can be used, but how do they work?

While most light present in the atmosphere is vibrating in a plethora of directions, light that is reflected off of things such as water or the road is often polarized so that it is only vibrating horizontally. This is what leads to the intense glare that we notice from reflected light. Polarized glasses have a special filter in their lenses that help to block that horizontally polarized light.

To properly understand how light polarization works, you must first understand the difference between polarized and unpolarized light. Light that is emitted by the sun, a flashlight, headlights, or a flame is unpolarized light. It travels as an electromagnetic wave. This electromagnetic wave will vibrate in a variety of directions, much like the electric charge that created it. Polarized light, on the other hand, travels as an electromagnetic wave that only vibrates in a single direction. If you are struggling to picture this, think of unpolarized light as a knuckle ball, being thrown from a baseball pitcher. As the ball is traveling toward the plate, at will vibrate both up and down, side to side, and all points in between. The movement of an electromagnetic wave is consistent, where a knuckle ball is erratic, but both move in many directions. Polarized light is more like a fastball. It will stay in the same place on one plane, but it will move on the other. The fastball will not move side to side, but it will drop as it goes forward.

As unpolarized light approaches a nonmetallic surfaces, the light waves are vibrating in several directions, but once they bounce off the surface, those waves are only vibrating in a direction that is parallel to that surface. This all depends on the angle at which the light approaches the surface and what material this surface is made of. Metallic surfaces, for example can reflect light that will vibrate in several directions, which leads to that light being unpolarized. Water, asphalt, ice, and snow, on the other hand, will reflect light as polarized. Since the light is polarized in a direction that is parallel to the surface off of which it is being reflected, most reflected light is polarized horizontally.

Polarized sunglasses are able to block this light because of the filter which is in their lenses. These filters are made from a special material, which is capable of blocking one of the two planes of vibration on which an electromagnetic wave can vibrate. This filter works by only allowing light waves that are vibrating vertically to be seen. Since unpolarized light waves are vibrating in all directions, they can penetrate the filter and be perceived by the person wearing the glasses. The horizontally vibrating electromagnetic waves are blocked.

In order to picture this, imagine a picket fence. As an object that is moving vertically is approaching the fence, can not get through the post. The gap between the posts is only vertical, so it must be able to move horizontal to penetrate the filter. As an object that is moving horizontally approaches the fence, it can pass through. The gaps in the fence only allow objects to pass through while moving in one direction. This is similar to how Polaroid filters (filters capable of blocking one direction of polarized light) are designed.

Polaroid filters are constructed of a substance that consists of many long-chain molecules arranged in the same direction. While the filter is being constructed, these long-chain molecules are aligned across the filter, going the same direction. As light approaches the filter, polarized light that is running parallel to the direction that the molecules are arranged is absorbed, much like with the picket fence blocks objects which travel the same direction that the posts are arranged. Unpolarized light will pass through as polarized light moving perpendicular to that of the light that is blocked. The polarization axis, which extends up and down the filter, blocks all electromagnetic waves that vibrate parallel to the way that the molecules are arranged. The polarization axis is perpendicular to the way that the molecules on the filter are laid out. Polarized sunglasses, since they have their molecules aligned horizontally to block horizontally polarized light, have a vertical polarization axis.

Since this light is blocked, the person wearing the sunglasses does not perceive all of the glare that is reflected. Fisherman can see the fish that is in the water instead of the glare that is being reflected on top, and runners can see the road instead of the glare coming from it. It's why enthusiasts who love boating, fishing, or are often running or biking along roadways that are capable of reflecting a good deal of light, choose to wear these sunglasses. They can do a great job of protecting eyes from dangerous glare, which can lead to mishaps and accidents.

Shades give the wearer an air of mystery and an allure of uber coolness you can’t help but envy just a little bit. Sunglasses come in all shapes, shades, sizes, and styles, just like the icons who wear them and bring them to popularized demand. Check out my countdown for the 5 most iconic sunglasses and the celebrities who rock ‘em.

5. Round Metal Frames

Round metal frames were popularized in the 70’s and Ozzy Osbourne has claimed them as his signature. They’ve also been rocked in sci-fi films like Dr.Strangelove and The Matrix. People still love to wear them and they definitely make a statement.

4. Wraparound Shades

Jackie O was the epitome of class and wealth in the 60’s. It was during that time she made the oversized wraparound style shades incredibly popular. To this day Hollywood darlings and socialites alike don these retro shades everywhere they go. BluBlockers polarized sunglasses are a great line of stellar celeb style shades you can check out if you want to mimic your fave celebrites fashion styling’s.

3. Aviators

Hunter S. Thompson is a legend and a talented writer, but may be best remembered for his aviator shades…okay, maybe that and his rampant partying. Johnny Depp rocked aviators in the famous film Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and people love to sport them in costume for Halloween renditions of the legendary man and character. BluBlocker sunglasses fitted Zach Galifinakais with plastic framed wrap-around aviators for his legendary role in The Hangover films. Those styles have been immortalized and continue to gain popularity.

2. Athletic Wraparounds

We couldn’t possibly have a list of iconic sunglasses without including the plastic and metal framed wrap-around styles worn by golf pros like Tiger Woods. These shades can be seen on tennis pros, golfers, and other sports enthusiasts to keep the sun out without sacrificing cool points.

1. Wayfarers

Wayfarers are classic rock and roll, but they were popularized when Audrey Hepburn wore them in the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s for her role as Holly Golightly. Folks like James Dean, Andy Warhol, the Blues Brothers, and tons of modern day artists whole-heartedly embrace the edgy wayfarer look.

10. Cancun

Right in your own backyard is Cancun, Mexico. This white-sand paradise stays warm year-round, with daytime temperatures in the eighties at least twenty-three out of thirty-one December days on average. You might want to bring a light jacket for the nighttime, though.

9. Waikiki, Hawaii

With daytime temperatures ranging from seventy to eighty-five, Waikiki’s a great place to work on your tan even in December. Watch out for the rain, though. December averages 2” per year of rainfall, so pack an umbrella to go with your BluBlockers!

8. Miami, Florida

The daytime temperature in Miami averages seventy-three degrees in December, falling to a cool fifty-one at night, so it’s pretty similar to Waikiki’s weather this time of year. And yes, that includes rain. But come on: It’s Miami!

7. Bora Bora

Bora Bora’s one of the great Tahitian tourism destinations. The average daytime December temperature is around eighty-one degrees, with an ocean temperature of around eighty-four, making it an excellent place to beat the winter doldrums.

6. Whitsunday Islands

If you’ve ever dreamed of going to Australia, the Whitsunday Islands are one of the premier Australian tourist destinations. With temperatures hovering around eighty-six degrees, this beautiful tropical haven is a peaceful refuge from the cold weather of the Northern Hemisphere.

5. Jamaica

For exotic drinks, white sand beaches, and warm temperatures all day long, there’s no better place to soak up the ambience of the Caribbean than in Jamaica. Try the jerk chicken while you’re there, too!

4. San Diego

Justly called one of the greatest beaches in America, San Diego can be chilly this time of year, with daytime temps in the mid- to high sixties and lows around forty-five. But it’s still a great place for boating and other open-water activities!

3. Palm Island, Grenadines

Palm Island is one of the most unspoiled Caribbean destinations left. There’s not much to do for children, but for a romantic getaway with all the beach activities you would expect without the constant hustle and bustle of some of the larger islands, Palm Island’s as close to a perfect paradise as you can get.

2. Australia’s Gold Coast

This thrilling subtropical coastline offers a very temperate climate with average seasonal temperatures in the eighties, a great variety of things to do for the whole family, and the Gold Coast is world-renowned for its sufing!

Dubai

Not everyone thinks of the United Arab Emirates as a tourist Mecca, but it is! Especially in December, when the more moderate temperatures, hovering in the high seventies, encourage exploration coupled with some of the finest luxury resorts on Earth.

Wherever you want to go in the world, when you want to hit the beach, don’t forget your BluBlocker sunglasses!

It’s easy to forget there’s a bigger world out there than our own little piece of it. Many people forget that when it’s winter in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s summer in the Southern Hemisphere! Just a plain ride away from the snow and cold of the American winter, you can beat the winter doldrums and experience another culture at the same time! Here are just a few great South American travel destinations you can look into. Grab your passport and your BluBlocker polarized sunglasses and start packing!

Costa Rica: This breathtaking country is a great place for the savvy tourist on a budget. Although the middle and end of December tend to be a little mercurial as far as the weather goes, with rain and thunderstorms commonplace, it’s still a great place to thaw out from the cold. And on a good day, you can hit the beach!

Rio De Janeiro, Brazil: One of the most exotic locales to be found anywhere on the planet, Rio De Janeiro offers beaches, nightlife, and history. Tourists flock to Rio year-round to enjoy the unique Brazilian/Portuguese cultural fusion and have fun. And of course, don’t forget about Carnivale!

Isla Marisol, Belize: Relatively few people realize it, but Belize is one of the greatest and most idyllic South American tourism destinations around. Diving, fishing, snorkeling, and kayaking are just some of the exciting activities on offer, and after a long day on the beach or the water, you can relax and enjoy five-star dining and nightlife with local flair!

Galapagos Islands: Off the coast of Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands are a great place to view exotic species that can’t be found anywhere else in the world. There are conservation efforts in place to help preserve the delicate ecosystem and environmental balance of the Galapagos, making this not only a wonderful place to dive, fish, and relax on the beach, but to learn more about our world and how fragile parts of it can be.

Panama: Panama has long been a popular destination for spring break refugees and those who want the unique tropical flavor only this amazing country could achieve. Between the beaches and the nightlife, many people who visit Panama keep going back for the exciting travel opportunities and the love of this remarkable and largely unsung Crossroads of the World.

So get the sunscreen, book your tickets, and don’t forget your BluBlockers when you’re heading to the airport!

Polarized sunglasses have been the big buzz in fashion eyewear for years. Combining form and function, they’re designed to look great and keep your eyes safe from UV rays and glare. This all sounds great, but doesn’t mean much to the average person. After all, sunglasses are sunglasses, right? And a lot of people, when they think of polarized sunglasses, also think of those visor-like sunglasses designed to fit over regular glasses. They work, but they’re not what anyone would call “cool.” So how do the best polarized sunglasses work?

Polarization can be best thought of as the kind of coating you put on your car windows. This transparent film blocks UV rays and glare, making it easier for you to see in bright conditions. Most sunglasses have the same kind of film either between two component pieces of the lens or as an overlay. While effective in the short term, these lenses tend to be very prone to scratching and breaking, making them impractical for anyone with a busy lifestyle. Which, these days, is everyone!

BluBlocker does it differently. The polarizing agent is actually incorporated right into the matrix of the lens. This not only offers a superior and uniform field of vision most other sunglasses can’t provide, but it also makes the lenses much more durable and resistant to damage. Have you ever tried to look through scratched, worn-out sunglasses? You can do it, but it often leads to eyestrain and headaches.

Because of the unique process by which BluBlocker lenses are crafted, they last longer and offer greater durability than comparably-priced fashion sunglasses. Although sunglasses look cool, they also serve a very practical function: allowing you to see in unusually bright conditions. BluBlockers are designed to filter out the blue portion of the spectrum and visual “noise” such as the reflected light from snow or water. This lets you see more easily and comfortably, with less eyestrain.

People go to great lengths to keep themselves healthy these days, but too many people forget to protect their eyes. BluBlocker has a great variety of designer polarized sunglasses that not only look cool, but also help keep your eyes safe and healthy. When you’re looking for the best polarized sunglasses at the best price, no one can beat BluBlocker for quality or price. Check out the selection and find your style, while protecting your eyes for years to come.

If you’ve ever been fishing on a bright day, you know how hard the glare off the water can be on your eyes. Maybe you’ve tried conventional sunglasses but weren’t satisfied with the results. This isn’t surprising; most mass-produced lenses for sunglasses are designed from non-optical-grade plastic which warps, distorts, and scratches easily. If simply setting your sunglasses down can cause them to scratch or warp, how much protection do you think they offer your eyes? Does anyone make sunglasses specifically for fishermen?

BluBlocker does! Rather than cheap clear plastic with a thin laminate coating, the BluBlocker lenses used in polarized fishing sunglasses are designed with the polarizing agent incorporated right into the matrix of the lenses. This makes them more durable and better able to withstand even prolonged, rugged use than conventional lenses. Even better, BluBlocker offers real UV and glare protection, to prevent eyestrain and the accompanying side effects even in the brightest light conditions, such as glare on water.

BluBlocker’s proprietary technology is designed to block one hundred percent of UVA and UVB rays which can harm your eyes, and they also block out the blue portion of the visible light spectrum. This is where glare originates, so by filtering out blue light waves, they help to cut down glare, making it easier to see in bright light without straining your eyes. If you’ve ever had a headache after a long day of reeling them in, you were probably experiencing the aftereffects of glare.

You’ve probably heard about UVA and UVB rays. UV stands for ultraviolet, and this is the same radiation that’s responsible for sunburn and skin cancer. Your skin is relatively durable, so if UV radiation will have that kind of effect on your skin, imagine what it will do to your fragile, sensitive eyes. BluBlocker lenses are designed to prevent these harmful rays from getting into your eyes, helping to promote good visual health for years to come.

When you’re loading up for your next fishing trip, you’re probably going to make sure you’ve got the essentials: food, beverages, first-aid kit, sunblock, and a hat. But why would you go to all that effort, just to forget to protect your most important sense: your vision? For great-looking fishing sunglasses that keep your eyes safe, no matter what kind of outdoor activities you enjoy, BluBlocker is your source! Check out the style that fits your life today.

Everywhere you look these days, you're hearing that polarized sunglasses are important. Polarized this, UV rays that. What's the difference? Aren't all sunglasses the same? You put them on so you can see in bright light. That's kind of the point, isn't it? Why all the extra "bells and whistles?" But the fact is, not all sunglasses are the same. Many sunglasses might have a coating to reduce direct sunlight, but that's all they do. When it comes to your eyes, a one-trick pony isn't going to cut it, but what are the best polarized sunglasses?

Polarized sunglasses incorporate a coating, either on the surface or within the lens itself, designed to prevent harmful rays that can damage your eyes. Blublocker' proprietary technology includes the polarizer right in the matrix of the lenses themselves, making them more durable and resistant to damage than any other lens. Not only can this sunglasses take just about anything you can throw at them, but they also block 100% of all UVA and UVB rays to keep your eyes safe and the blue portion of the visible light spectrum, to help you see more sharply and clearly than ever before.

BluBlocker's Malenium BluRay lenses are the best in the industry for eye protection. These lenses are designed to withstand the kind of punishment that ordinary lenses can't stand up to. Blublocker sunglasses are intended for the serious outdoor enthusiast, so they have to be able to hold up under hard use for long periods of time.

And just because they offer great eye protection and durability doesn't mean you have to sacrifice style for safety. BluBlocker offers classic and up-to-date styles for men and women, whether you prefer a retro look or the up-to-the-minute style you saw at the club last weekend. Eye safety shouldn't have to mean ugly, bulky polarized sunglasses you'd be embarrassed to be seen in!

So when you need to know what the best polarized sunglasses are, the only name you need to know is BluBlocker! We offer sunglasses that can help safeguard your vision from the dangerous rays and light wavelengths that can make it hard to see and even damage your eyes, while still helping you stay on the front end of the fashion curve without blowing your budget. Don't settle for substitutes that cost three times as much and don't do half of what our sunglasses do. Let BluBlocker show you how we can keep you looking great and your eyes healthy for years to come!
